Apogee Strengthens Senior Management Team

Exploration & Operations Appointments Bring Experience To Bolivian Operations


TORONTO, ON September 28, 2006 Apogee Minerals Ltd. (TSX Venture Exchange: APE) has recently made senior appointments to strengthen its Bolivian management team; Mr Joaquin Merino-Marquez has been appointed Exploration Manager-Bolivia and Mr David Fuertes has been appointed Operations Manager-La Solucion Mine. Mr. Mark Feeney has also been appointed Director of Corporate Development for the company.

Joaquin Merino-Marquez, Exploration Manager – Bolivia

Mr Joaquin Merino-Marquez has a BSc(Hons) from University of Seville, Spain and an MSc from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. He has extensive surface and underground exploration and mining experience. Most recently he worked as Senior Exploration Geologist for Placer Dome Asia Pacific at the Porgera Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea. Joaquin has also worked for other major and junior mining companies in Venezuela, Peru, Chile and Bolivia.

David Fuertes, Operations Manager – La Solucion Mine

Mr David Fuertes, a mining engineer, has over 28 years of mine operations experience in Bolivia. Most recently he was Operations Manager at Pan American Silver’s San Vincente mine. Mr Fuertes was also employed by COMSUR, until recently Bolivia’s largest miner, where for over 20 years where he was directly involved in the expansion and modernization of six underground mining operations.

Mr Fuertes will report to Mr Rick Irvine, Apogee’s Vice President Operations and resident Chief Operating Officer in Bolivia, who commented, “Mr. Fuertes has had an extensive, successful mining career in Bolivia and his 28 years of experience as an operator will be relevant and of immense benefit to Apogee”

Mark Feeney, Director of Corporate Development

Mr. Mark Feeney joins Apogee with over 20 years of experience in the areas of corporate finance and institutional sales. He has consulted to a number of publicly traded companies in the mining sector where he has developed and implemented Corporate Development and Investor Relations programs. Mr. Feeney is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and holds an MBA from the London School of Business.

Building A Premier Emerging Silver Producer

Mr. Douglas A. Currie, MAusIMM, Apogee’s Vice President-Exploration, is the Qualified Person as defined under National Instrument 43-101 responsible for the scientific and technical work on the exploration program and is responsible for reviewing the technical disclosure in this press release.

All analytical work has been completed by ALS Chemex of North Vancouver, BC, Canada; ALS Chemex is a respected international analytical service which is accredited with NATA and complies with standards of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 17025:1999. They employ a variety of international standards for quality control purposes.

Samples are transported from field projects to the ALS Chemex sample preparation facility in Oruru, Bolivia, by Company personnel or a reputable commercial carrier. All analytical testing is performed utilizing a variety of industry standard analytical techniques, including: (i) ALS Analytical Code ME-MS41 – 50 element analysis using aquaregia digest and ICPAES analysis, (ii) ALS Analytical Code AA46 & AA62 – specific element analysis using aquaregia digest and AAS determination (Ag, Zn, Pb, Cu, As) and, (iii) Analytical Code Au-AA26 – Gold using a 50g Fire Assay-AAS finish.

All diamond drill core is geologically logged and sampled by Company geologists then is cut in half using a diamond saw and sampled in one(1) meter sample intervals; the archive portion of the sample is securely stored at each project site. The Company has initiated a QA/QC program consisting of utilizing standards, duplicate and blank samples and laboratory cross-checks and routinely repeats sample analysis.

Trench samples are chip-channel samples taken over a 5-10cm wide channel cut in the bottom of an excavated trench. Sample intervals are normally 2m composites in zones of alteration or mineralization and 5m composites through unaltered selvedges.
