Prophecy Coal Announces the Passing of Michael J. Deats

Vancouver, British Columbia, February 27, 2014 – Prophecy Coal Corp. (“Prophecy” or the “Company”) (TSX:PCY, OTCQX:PRPCF, Frankfurt:1P2) is saddened to announce the passing of Michael Julius Deats, an independent member of the Company’s Board of Directors, Audit Committee and Corporate Governance and Compensation Committee on February 18, 2014.

Mr. Deats was appointed to the Prophecy Board of Directors in December 2010 and had a distinguished career as a mining engineer and leadership roles in some of the largest energy and mining operations in the world. Mr. Deats’ wealth of knowledge and expertise in the mining industry and his sage advice and guidance made an invaluable contribution to the Company. The Company extends its condolences to Mr. Deats’ family.
